Baltimore City Traffic Volumes Preparedness Post Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

BALTIMORE, MD (April 2, 2024) – As drivers from the region return to their commuting routine after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation (BCDOT) has proactively prepared to manage increased traffic volumes. The BCDOT is working with state and local transportation agencies to ensure ongoing regional coordination and disseminate public transportation options for commuters. The BCDOT is also reviewing and identifying key locations for the City's ingress and egress, which may require heightened traffic direction and enforcement due to increased traffic volumes. This includes assessing increases in truck traffic, evaluating truck routes and travel needs, and ongoing monitoring of our traffic signals in those key areas to adjust signal timings as necessary.

We strongly encourage the use of free public transportation services the city offers, such as the Charm City Circulator bus service and the Harbor Connector. There are also many other transit options, including the Metro Subway, Light Rail, and Local Bus. Residents can easily use mass transit from numerous locations in and around Baltimore City.

The public can sign up for Traffic updates at City of Baltimore (govdelivery.com).
