Baltimore, MD (Friday, July 7, 2023) – Today, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation announced that a new commercial vehicle height monitoring enforcement location will soon be implemented as part of the City’s Automated Traffic Violation Enforcement System (ATVES).

The Commercial Vehicle Height Monitoring System helps to reduce traffic congestion and damage to streets, homes, businesses, and other infrastructure by commercial vehicles that unlawfully drive along restricted roadways. The Vehicle Height Monitoring System records images of commercial vehicles traveling on truck-restricted (posted/signed) streets in Baltimore City. When a truck is detected by the camera system, photos and video are taken to capture the registration identification of the vehicle’s cab.

Vehicle height monitoring system cameras are operational 24 hours a day, every day of the year, along roadways that are posted with truck restriction signs unless the truck restrictions are enforced only during certain times. The fine for a Commercial Vehicle Height Monitoring System violation is:

· First Offense – Warning

· Second Offense – $125.00

· Third or Subsequent Offenses – $250.00 each

Implementation of a new Commercial Vehicle Height Monitoring System will begin on or about Monday, July 17, 2023, at the following location, including multiple directions:

· 900 block of Ponca Street

If a commercial vehicle travels on a restricted roadway to deliver to a specific location, a copy of the bill of lading, Maryland One permit, or other proof of local delivery is needed to be exempt.
