Baltimore, You Have Been Warned: Automated Speed Enforcement Citations Begin TOMORROW Along the Jones Falls Expressway

Motorists should obey the posted speed limits to avoid the $40 fine

BALTIMORE, MD (July 12, 2022) — The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (BCDOT) would like to remind motorists that automated speed enforcement citations along the Jones Falls Expressway (JFX) begin tomorrow, Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

Th 90-day warning period to alert motorists of the new speed enforcement program along the Jones Falls Expressway began in mid-April and ends today. Now that the warning period is concluding, automated speed citations will be issued to motorists driving 12 or more miles per hour over the speed limit along the JFX starting at 12:00 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, July 13, 2022

Automated enforcement cameras are located along both the northbound and southbound Jones Falls Expressway near the W. 41st Street bridge.  The fine for an automated speed citation is $40, and no license points are assessed.  Automated speed enforcement along the JFX will be in effect 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

To alert motorists that automated speed enforcement is occurring, warning signs are posted along the expressway.  Digital speed sentry signs have also been installed so that drivers will receive feedback of their speeds in real time which encourages compliance with posted speed limits.

Motorists are encouraged to obey the posted speed limits along the JFX to avoid being cited.  Additional information about the city’s Automated Traffic Violation Enforcement System can be found at https://transportation.baltimorecity.gov/atvesprogram.
