Department of Transportation encourages motorists to plan ahead and drive safely as the busy holiday season begins

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to remind citizens to drive safely this holiday season.  Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the hectic holiday travel season, and is one of the busiest travel weeks each year.

As the holiday season moves into full swing, citizens are encouraged to travel during off-peak hours to avoid congestion and delays.  Area roadways will be bustling with holiday travelers, so motorists should stay alert and exercise patience while driving.  Citizens should also refrain from aggressive and distracted driving for everyone’s safety.  It is illegal in Maryland to use a handheld cell phone or text while driving.  Maryland law also requires the use of seat belts and child safety seats every time you travel. 

In the spirit of the season, the Department of Transportation urges everyone to drive sober and plan ahead for a safe ride home.  Celebrate safely by designating a driver and taking the keys from others who have had too much to drink.
